Botulinum toxin (type A)

Botulinum toxin type A is used to temporarily improve the appearance of vertical wrinkles between eyebrows (observed at maximum frown), “crow’s feet” wrinkles (observed when we smile widely), of frontal wrinkles (observed when we make a surprised face), gummy smile or wrinkles around the nose.

The procedure consists of injecting a very small amount of botulinum toxin into the muscle which causes wrinkles to subside, by making the muscle temporarily relax (for 3 to 6 months). There is no recovery time after the procedure, normal activity can be resumed immediately after leaving the doctor’s office. The botulinum toxin takes effect within 1-2 weeks after injection.

Usage recommendations:

  • Wrinkles on the glabella, forehead, crow’s feet
  • Palmar, plantar and axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
  • Nose wrinkles
  • Gummy smile
  • drooping mouth corners
  • Masseter hypertrophy
  • Vertical wrinkles on the neck (platysma)

Contraindications:

  • Known hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin type A or any of the excipients of the solution (human albumin, sodium chloride)
  • Myasthenia gravis
  • Eaton Lambert Syndrome
  • Infection of the proposed injection site
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
  • Peripheral neuromuscular disorders
  • History of dysphagia
  • Aspirin treatment

What should I expect?

When having a face treatment, the procedure consists of microinjections with a very small needle (4 mm) in specific areas for muscle relaxation. The discomfort is minimal, and can be eliminated by applying a cream with pre-injection anesthetic. Possible side effects that may occur after the injection are: minimal discomfort in the injected area, redness at the injection site, mild ecchymosis (bruising), headache. There is no recovery period, you can resume your normal activity immediately. It takes effect 1-2 weeks after the injection.

When using the injections for hyperhidrosis, the procedure requires the application of anesthetic cream, followed by toxin injections to cover the affected area. The discomfort felt in this procedure is greater than in the case of the face treatment, due to the structure of the palmar and plantar skin (sole) but also to the increased number of injections. The effect of the toxin is noticeable 1-2 weeks after the injection. There is no recovery period, you can resume your activity immediately.
