Cosmetic breast surgery consult

Most women who opt for breast augmentation surgery want to improve their body image, and with it, self-confidence. Breast implant augmentation can be an option for reconstructions after mastectomy, breast asymmetry, or for achieving a harmonious breast after breastfeeding / weight loss. Breast implants are available in different sizes, shapes and textures, they are chosen after a detailed discussion on your wishes and various anatomical aspects of your body (height, chest shape, chest size, etc.).

Opting for this procedure is a personal choice and you are a possible candidate if: – You have asymmetrical breasts; – You believe your breasts are too small and in disharmony with the rest of your body; – Your breasts no longer have their initial size and shape, as a result of breastfeeding, weight loss etc; – You have a congenital malformation; – You want to improve the way you feel.

During the cosmetic breast surgery consult, it is important to mention all your medical issues, whether you are taking any kind of treatment, and whether you are a smoker. If you smoke, it would be advisable to stop two weeks in advance. Smoking interferes with the healing process and the scarring pattern. Certain medications (anti-inflammatory, anticoagulant, antiaggregants) may increase the risk of bleeding, so it’s advisable to stop taking them after a consultation the doctor who prescribed these drugs for long term treatment. Your surgeon will explain which surgical technique is most suitable for you, as well as the main post-operative complications and the proper way of dealing with them, should they occur. The positioning of the implant depends on its type, the desired degree of enlargement, body shape and the surgeon’s recommendations. Examining your breasts is mandatory! During your consult, you will pose in different positions and your doctor will examine photos taken of you. You will also be measured to determine which types of implants will suit your breast and body shape the best.

At the end of the consult, you will receive a list of the tests necessary for the preoperative preparation. So, in order to examine the breast not only on the outside, but also on the inside, you have to do a mammary ultrasound to determine your Breast Imaging Reporting and Database System (BI-RADS) score.

It is important to know how to plan your pre-procedure time, so you will leave the surgeon’s office with lists of pre- and post-operative recommendations.

Sometimes deciding to have any type of aesthetic procedure on the breast requires time to process, so take this time and make sure you have the support of family or very close friends to help you go through the recovery period.
